Opelousas-Private memorial services and funeral rites will be held for Yvonne Ducharme and her immediate family. Deacon Mitch Hebert will officiate.
Yvonne Melancon Bruner Ducharme was a native of Cecilia and a longtime resident of Port Barre and Breaux Bridge. She passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home in Arnaudville, surrounded by her family, at the age of 79.
She was an active member of the Yambilee Association and served as its secretary during the 1960's into the 1970's. Her artistry was appreciated by so many. From the delicate lines of a custom sewn evening gown to the beauty of a freshly installed ceramic tile counter top, she could do it all. She was an interior designer for many years as well as a real estate broker, and left her visionary mark from Louisiana to Arkansas to Florida. She loved remodeling, flower gardens, time spent at her camp, and the outdoors. Her little dogs, Jake and Drew, were her best buddies and brought love to her every day. However, above all else, she cherished her family and found absolute joy in their presence. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Cynthia Wilkerson of Rayne, LA; Elton Bruner III of Breaux Bridge, LA; Christine Matsoukas and husband, Robert of Alabama; and Michelle Nezat and husband, Donny of Port Barre; her sisters, Patricia Burleigh and husband, Merrell, and Delphine Caswell, all of Port Barre; six grandchildren, Alicia Ardoin, Christian Wilkerson, Nicole Bourke, Kristopher Matsoukas, Sierra Doucet, and Matthew Nezat, and two great-grandchildren, Ava Ardoin and Ella Ardoin.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, E. D. Bruner, Jr.; her father, Arthur Melancon and her mother, Maria "Cajin" Leblanc Melancon.
