Port Barre Funeral services for Mrs. Yvonne Prudhomme Bourque, age 81, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2009, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Fr. Nicky Trahan will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mrs. Bourque was a native and was a long-time resident of Port Barre. She died on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, in the Opelousas General Health System. Ms. Yvonne and her husband Mr. Adolph were co-owners of A. Bourque, Inc. Supermarket of Port Barre. She enjoyed cooking for her children and their families. She loved to go camping with the Shasta Campers Club and loved to go to the garage sales in the area. She enjoyed her annual trips with her two daughters to Las Vegas and also enjoyed going to the local casinos with them. She was a loving wife to Mr. Adolph for 65 years and many of those years were spent dancing with him until they were no longer physically able to do so. She also was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Ms. Yvonne was known for her humorous disposition and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by sons, Lester Bourque and wife Willie of Port Barre, Homer Bourque and wife Dianne of Port Barre, Karl Bourque and wife Celeste of Port Barre, step son George Bourque and wife Elaine of Cutoff, La.; daughter, Mrs. Mona Thompson and husband Walter of Humble, TX.; son-in-law, Robert Ray Hebert of Port Barre; sister, Mrs. Rena Duplechain of Port Barre; 21 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bourque was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Bourque; parents, Homer and Aline Fontenot Prudhomme; daughter, Geri Bourque Hebert; brother, Lyness Phudhomme; sister, Lou Richard.
Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. Funeral Home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Rosary will be recited by Deacon Mitch Hebert at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, David, Daine, Shannon, Chad, Walter and Timmy; honorary pallbearer, Joe Guidry.
