Sunset- Funeral services for Mr. Woodrow Woody Sibille, age 92, known to many as Woody and Buck will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Fr. James Lambert will celebrate the Mass.
Woody was a native of Grand Coteau and a long-time resident of Sunset. He died on Sunday, September 6, 2009, at Opelousas General Health System.
His career began as a young man in the family sweet potato business. His father was one of the first shippers in the sweet potato business which was one of the main sources of income and growth in the Sunset area. He also was in the Cotton Gin and feed store business for many years.
He was a very strong business man who served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Sunset for 41 years. He was always active and willing to serve in numerous organizations in the community. He was also a past member of YMBC, LA Sweet Potato Association, and St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a U. S. Army Air Corp veteran who served his country during WWII.
His favorite pastime was being with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. He was a people person and was always the first to offer assistance to ones in need. He loved to make his morning visits and drink coffee with people at the bank, post office, and pharmacy. He enjoyed doing genealogy research and locating old family members. He would also enjoy dancing with his wife and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Katherine McClelland Sibille of Sunset; two sons: Patrick Pat Sibille of Aberdeen, Scotland; and Dwight Sibille of Sunset; three brothers: James Sibille and wife, Jeannine of Lafayette; Donald Sibille and wife, Doris of Sunset; and Gerald Jerry Sibille and wife, Patricia Pat of Lafayette; three sisters: Francis Smith of Columbus, Mississippi; Evelyn Erny of Lafayette; and Norma Ducote of Lafayette; and two grandchildren: Nathan Sibille of Sunset; and Justin Sibille of Cecilia. He also has a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents: John B. Sibille and Marie Barry Sibille; and two brothers: Harold Sibille and John O. Sibille.
