Opelousas Funeral Services for Mr. Willie Bill Goforth, age 82, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Rev. Pam Roy will officiate the service.
Bill was a native of Tyler, Texas and was a longtime resident of Opelousas, Louisiana. He died on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana.
He was raised by his grandmother, Dora Blackwell Goforth. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during World War II where he received many awards including the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was a graduate of Overton High School. He also attended Kilgore College for one year. In 1985, he retired from Exxon Gas with 33 years of service as an Operator.
He enjoyed doing woodworking in his shop at home. He also enjoyed being outdoors especially camping in the motor home with his wife and worked as campground hosts for several years. He traveled all over the United States from the east coast to the west coast, and in Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. During his travels, he and his wife made many dear friends and still remain friends with them today.
He was a member of the Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Bill was known as Pap Paw and was a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of the friends who he and Mrs. Shirley grew to know over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Shirley Haas Goforth of Opelousas, LA one son, Mark Goforth and wife, Michelle of Lumberton, TX one daughter, Tracy Goforth Frug and husband, Douglas of Atascocita, TX one sister, Betty Goforth Singletary of Texarkana, AR and five grandchildren: Brendan, Christopher, and Colin Frug Ashley and Bradley Goforth.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Willie Goforth and Opal Moore Goforth.

A Masonic service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas on Friday, February 12, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
On Sunday, a visitation will resume from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Burrows Overton Funeral Home in Overton, TX.
On Sunday, Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Burrows Overton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment and graveside services will follow in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Henderson, TX.
