Wilbur Eugene Pee Wee Eppinette

Port Barre Funeral services for Mr. Wilbur Eugene Pee Wee Eppinette, age 88, will be held on Friday, November 16, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Father Nicky Trahan will celebrate the Mass. The Gift bearers will be Tom and Alisha Eppinette, Mark Sansing, and Lynn Hawkins. The Readings will be done by Sabrina Devillier.

Mr. Eppinette was a long time resident of Port Barre. He died at 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, in Baton Rouge. He was born on March 11, 1919, in Girard, LA. After working several jobs in the area of Start, LA, one of which he was a truck driver and mechanic for T. L. James and Co. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served as a machinist Mate doing repairs and Maintenance of LST and LSD ships. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to work for T. L. James and Co. as a master mechanic. He eventually got promoted to shop foreman at the Lafayette maintenance yard. He retired in 1985 from T. L. James and Company with over 44 years of service.

He spent his retirement years working in his garden and doing small repair jobs for anyone who needed work done and never charging anyone a penny. He also loved his cattle. He tended to 20 or 30 heads on his farm just west of Opelousas. He would visit them one or two times a week until his health and his age forced him to sell them. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Port Barre VFW. He was a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include two sons: Tommy Eppinette and wife, Debbie of Baton Rouge; and Donald Gene Eppinette of Port Barre; one brother-in-law, Herman Devillier and wife, Lula Mae of Port Barre; four grandchildren: Tom Eppinette, Jr. and wife, Christie of Ossining, NY; Alisha Eppinette of Atlanta, GA; Mark Sansing and wife, Jo of San Antonio, TX; and Lynn Hawkins and husband, Joey of Amarillo, TX; and 3 great grandchildren.

Mr. Eppinette was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Edna Devillier Eppinette; one son, Charles Quinton Eppinette; his parents, Edgar Valentine Eppinette and Annie Fautheree Eppinette; and 2 brothers.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Eppinette, Tom Eppinette, Jr., Donald Gene Eppinette, Mark Sansing, Ted Beaugh and Ricky Dugas.

Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. On Friday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested mass intentions be made in Mr. Eppinettes memory or donations made to the charity of your choice.
