Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, for Mrs. Wanda L. Dupuis. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the St. Landry Catholic Church Mausoleum in Opelousas. Rev. Msgr. Charles J. Mallet will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and Rev. Msgr. Keith DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church will concelebrate.
Wanda Marie Lorrain Dupuis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 4, 2012. She battled Parkinsons with Dementia for the last 8 years and was diagnosed this past March with cancer.
Wanda was born to Bernice and Elie Lorrain on December 1, 1929. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, A.J. Dupuis, Jr. to whom she was married for 52 years. She leaves behind her 6 children and their spouses Prescott Dupuis and wife Jan, Debbie Cooper and husband Stacy, Glenn Dupuis and wife Janet, Robert Bob Dupuis Sharron, Russell Dupuis and wife Annette, and Martin Dupuis and wife Rhonda her 15 grandchildren Doug Westmoreland Erika, Christie Griffin Frank, Ashley Stephens Shane, Leslie Wren Stephen, Lindsey Grant Cooper, Melissa Lagrange Phillip, Kelley Gerace Chris, Jeremy, Joshua Brittany Dupuis, Blanche Paige Dupuis, and Justin Brandon Dupuis her 13 great grandchildren Riley, Emery Grayson Westmoreland, Drake Kennedy Griffin, Landon Tyler Stephens, Blake, Grace Ava Wren, Cain Cyrus Lagrange Carter Gerace.
Wanda graduated from Bell City High School and from USL SLI in Lafayette with a major in Home Economics and a minor in Upper Elementary Education. She was a member of Tri Delta sorority and graduated from college with honors. She married A.J. and moved to Opelousas where she raised her family.
After her youngest began school, she became a teacher at Academy of Immaculate Conception AIC which later became Opelousas Catholic. There she taught 8th grade Earth Science and influenced children for 32 years. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for the Diocese of Lafayette in the early1980s. She was an extremely dedicated teacher and strived to always push her students to excel in all areas of their life.
She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority for education.
Wandas greatest pride was in her children and their families. We will miss her and her influence in all of our lives.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers that worked previously with Wanda and while at Prompt Succor Nursing Home and Louisiana Hospice Care for their attentive care.
Visitation will be held at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas on Monday, August 6, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday evening in the funeral home.
