She was there undergoing treatments for esophageal and lung cancer wtih Pennington Cancer Research Center of Louisiana.BRBRViola worked with her parents, farming, until later moving to New Orleans with her sister, Helen. She took a job there with a capital grocery food chain as a store clerk for a year. It was then that she started working for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph as an operator. While still living in New Orleans, she married the love of her life, Lee. In 1952, Viola and Lee moved back from the city and to Port Barre, where they started their own business. They owned and operated Lee''s Esso Station for several years. Then they built the Canal Station and she''s had other businesses; including a fabric shop, restaurant, the Military Surplus, and also VL Imports, which has been in business for over 38 years.BRBRShe will be loved and missed by all that knew her. We''ll be reminded of her when we see the statues that she''s sold throughout this area, as they all have her own personal touch. She was a strong woman and was able to carry a statue almost her weight without any struggle. Viola was quick in math and would compute a list of numbers in her head before you could total them up on a calculator. Monique, her dog, was used to having a little sip of coffee with her a couple times each day. Viola would put her coffee in a little bowl, sweeten it and cool it for her to drink.
