Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Versey Ortego Vasseur, 72, will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in the Prairie Ronde Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Prairie Ronde Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Fultz will conduct the services.

Mrs. Vasseur was a long time resident of Prairie Ronde and died at 11:55 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007, in the St. Landry Extended Care Hospital. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Mr. Leo Vasseur of Prairie Ronde; two sons: Roland Vasseur, Sr. and wife, Deidra of Church Point; and Dennis Paul Vasseur and wife, Bridget of Prairie Ronde; three daughters: Linda Castille of Prairie Ronde; Benita Betty Pommier and husband, Nick of Port Barre; and Elaine Vasseur of Prairie Ronde; seven sisters: Joyce Vasseur, Norma Jean Vasseur, Bernadine Richard, and Leola Vasseur, all of Praire Ronde; Ruby Brown and Virginia Ortego, both of Port Barre; and Ivy Dale Roberie of Grand Prairie; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Kirby Ortego and Vernice Castille Ortego; one daughter, Jeannette Ardoin; and two sisters: Eula Mae Ortego and Paula Ortego.

Pallbearers will be Kim Sylvester, Nick Lavergne, Scotty Vasseur, Joe Ardoin, Nick Pommier, and Paul Vasseur. Honorary pallbearers will be Brooks Ardoin and Micheal Dugas.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Saturday, June 2, 2007, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing with an all night wake until 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening in the funeral home.
