Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Guillory Lalonde will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the St. Leo Cemetery in Leonville.
Verna was a native of the Port Barre area and was a resident of Jarreau, LA. She lived 82 wonderful years and enjoyed life to the fullest. She died peacefully and restful on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Butterfly Unit of Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge after a 5 month battle of brief illnesses.
In your memories, we find comfort and within the hearts of your family and your friends, we find love. In your spirit and memory, your legacy lives on. We love you and will never forget the difference you made in our lives. You will always remain in our thoughts and prayers and will be deeply missed by all.
She was a wonderful and loving wife, and a very devoted mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and greatgrandmother. She loved to laugh, cook, and spend time with her family and friends.
She will be dearly missed by her two daughters: Sylvia Kelley and husband, Dale Kelley, Sr. of Jarreau and Jeanette Pie Brown and husband, Mark Brown of Port Allen her brother, Jessie Jay Portal and wife, Jane of New Orleans her grandchildren: Dale Kelley, Jr. and wife, Cindy Darryel Kelley and wife, Terri Lisa Langlois and husband, Clevie Tina Leonard, Gina Pearce, Ken Albarez and wife, Lauren Brian Albarez and wife, Jeanne Jennifer Popov and husband, George and Jason Brown and wife, Marina greatgrandchildren: Dale III, Aaron, Christopher, and Victoria Kelley Angelle, Abbie, and Adam Leonard Elisabeth, John, and William Pearce Hollie Meliet and Madison Childers Mathew Martinez, Alex Knight, and Meghan Albarez, Claire, Aleksander, Nikolas, and Anderson Popov and Madison Brown. She also had two special godchildren: Dolores Huff who was like a daughter to her and Percy Auzenne and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Dan Lalonde her father, Archangel Guillory her mother, Angelle Robin Portal stepfather, Joseph Joe Portal brother, Leroy Portal special nephew, Ronnie Lalonde several nephews, sistersinlaw, and brothersinlaw.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Dale Lil Dale Kelly, Jr. Darryel Kelley, Ken Bo Albarez, Clevie Langlois, Brian Albarez, and Jason Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be her greatgrandsons: Mathew Martinez, Aaron Kelley, Dale Kelley III, Chris Kelley, Aleksander Popov, Adam Leonard, John Pearce, and William Pearce.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, May 17, 2010, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
