Verna Lee Bellard Lejeune was a long-time resident of Port Barre and a current resident of Lafayette. She passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, July 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Verna was an excellent cook. She inherited her cooking skills from her mother and passed it down to her children and grandchildren. She often received requests for her tasty dishes. She was called on often with questions like “How do you cook this?”, “What do you put in it?”, or better yet “You cook it and we’ll be there”. No holiday was complete without one of her decadent homemade cakes.
She was often complimented for her beautiful flower bed, where she showcased her favorite flower, marigolds. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body and was always very quiet and shy. She was a devout catholic and was faithful in saying her rosary nightly before bed. But above everything else, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the queen of our family, our “dear” mother, MawMaw, and great MawMaw. She will be missed tremendously and remembered always. May she rest peacefully.
Verna is survived by her son, Gary Lejeune (Roberta), daughters, Carol Lejeune LeDoux (fiancé, Harold Ortego), Diana Lejeune Barras, Angela Lejeune Venable (Paul Rene Venable); son-n-law, Stanley Fruge, brother, Sidney Bellard, Jr.; sister, Linda Bellard Nezat; 9 grandchildren, Jason P. LeDoux, Allison L. LaJack (Charles), Lindsey Lejeune, Ginny Lejeune, Wendy B. Ramer (Jamey), Carl Fruge (Rachel), Jennifer Fruge, Ashley L. Williams (Jerry) and Haley Leger; 15 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Katelyn, Brayden, Amelia, Caelan, Stella, Evangeline, Lillian, River, Jason Scott, Carl Jr., Summer, Grayson, Gracelyn and Jaxon.
Verna is preceded in death by her father, Sidney Bellard, Sr.; mother, Agnes Comeaux Bellard; daughter, Rhonda Lejeune Fruge; son-n-law, Sheldon LeDoux, sister, Bertha Bellard Marks; brothers-in-law, Charles Marks and Charles Nezat; and sister-in-law, Freddie Bellard.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Monday evening. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jason P. LeDoux, Carl Fruge, Brayden Deshotels, Aaron LeDoux, Charles LaJack and Jamey Ramer. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Ortego, Paul Rene Venable and Gary Lejeune.
