Port BarreFamily and friends are mourning the loss of their beloved Vergil. Vergil J. Benoit, known to many as Bo, age 70, was called home on Friday, January 6, 2012, at St. Landry Extended Care Hospital.
He worked in the oilfield for many years and served in the National Guard for 8 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and fishing with his best buddy, Phillip Courvelle. He also built woodworks in his spare time. He loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his lovely wife, of 48 years, Mrs. Ruby Allemond Benoit of Port Barre his children, Callie Benoit Soileau and husband, Joshua of Port Barre and Jennifer Benoit Barnes and husband, Keith of Port Barre his brother, Verlyn Benoit and wife, Hazel of Port Barre six grandchildren, Damian Benoit and wife, Nikki Sarah Benoit, Alaynie, Alyssa and Megan Barnes and one greatgrandchild, Anna Kate Benoit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Benoit and Evelyn Guillory Benoit his sister, Janice Benoit Burghoff and brotherinlaw, Jack Burghoff.
Pallbearers will be Albert Allemond, Joshua Allemond, Keith Barnes, Damian Benoit, Craig Burghdoff, Chase Duplechain, Jacob Duplechain and Joshua Soileau. Honorary pallbearers will be Onezime Allemond, Jr., Rodney Allemond, Verlyn Benoit, Caleb Duplechain and Mitch Hebert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2012, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Sunday, January 8, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A rosary service will be held on Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Special thanks to LA Hospice and Palliative Care, St. Landry Extended Care Hospital, Dr. Amy, Dr. Cole, Dr. Mayeaux, and all of the wonderful Angels that God sent to his aid.
