Verdine Meche

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Verdine S. Meche, age 82, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum.
Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass.
Mrs. Verdine was a native of Ville Platte and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. She died on Friday, September 16, 2011, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
She enjoyed cooking and spending time visiting with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, and a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and greatgreatgrandmother. She enjoyed doing gardening, sewing or mending garments, and doing ceramic projects. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Meche and wife, Patricia of Opelousas and Bret Meche and wife, Liz of Opelousas two daughters, Sandra Noack and husband, Gary of Cuero, TX and Sheila Cormier and husband, Ronald of Opelousas two brothers, Hubert Soileau of Ville Platte and Curtis Soileau of Opelousas two sisters, Gerry Dean Veillon of Ville Platte and Joyce Dupre of Washington 17 grandchildren, 22 greatgrandchildren, and 1 greatgreatgrandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emile Meche and her parents, Mark Soileau and Lezima Fontenot Soileau.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, September 18, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
