Vera Mae St. Cyr Boyd
Opelousas Funeral services for Vera Mae St. Cyr Boyd, 88, will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 9, 2009, in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park, Opelousas.
Msgr. Louis Melancon will conduct the service.
Mrs. Boyd was a native and life-long resident of Opelousas. Born on January 16, 1921, she was the youngest daughter of Albert and Alice Cotten St. Cyr. Vera graduated in 1937 from the Academy of the Immaculate Conception AIC as Valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Boyd had a great sense of humor and was an avid sports fan. She thoroughly enjoyed the game of baseball always knew the correct score and is remembered by many as the bubble gum lady. Vera Mae enjoyed traveling and had visited 48 of the US states. She enjoyed beautiful flowers, crossword puzzles, fishing and reading. She was a devoted member of St. Landry Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; she is going to be sadly missed by all.
Ma Boyd is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Bip and Libby Lyman Boyd, Mouth of Wilson, Va., Dennis and Charlene Stalinski Boyd, Lafayette, La. Tim and Beth Wallett Boyd, Opelousas, La., Robert and Brenda Fitzgerald Boyd, Edmond, OK., and William Willy and Pat Chachere Boyd, Opelousas, La. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; Lynn Boyd Trey Fondon, Richard Michelle Boyd, Phillip Jodie Boyd, Brett Gladys Boyd, Shelly Boyd Prejean, Julie Boyd Guy Walsh, Logan Boyd, Brad Boyd, Leslie Boyd, Brooke Boyd Andy Brown, Justin Kimbrali Boyd, Jonathan Marlin Boyd, Lauryn Boyd Jeff Bulliard and 18 great grandchildren.
Vera Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Gus E. Boyd; parents, Albert and Alice Cotten St. Cyr; infant brother, William St. Cyr, and 3 sisters and brothers-In-law; Gertrude and Raymond Guillotte, Vernie and Hamilton DeJean, Helen and Ottis Welch; a niece, Mary Lee Guillotte Arceneaux and a nephew, Leslie DeJean.
Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. On Thursday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home on Wednesday evening.
