Veneita Ryder Grimmett
Port Barre Funeral services for Mrs. Veneita Ryder Grimmett, age 90, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008, in the United Methodist Church of Port Barre. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park of Opelousas. Rev. Cage McLemore will conduct the service.
Mrs. Grimmett was born in Waxia and was a long time resident of Port Barre. She passed away at 9:36 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Grimmett was a homemaker, a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a very devoted caregiver to her children and grandchildren. She really enjoyed spending time with family and friends cooking, baking, laughing, and reminiscing over the good times. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She loved being outdoors especially fishing and hunting. She was an avid LSU Tigers Fan. She participated in many activities for her children. She created and developed the first Summer Youth Program in Port Barre and was president of the PBHS Band Mother's Club and the PTA. She would make sure the organizations would have adequate funds by doing fundraisers for the programs. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church in Port Barre and sang in the choir.
Survivors include two sons: Bradley G. Grimmett and wife, Blanche of Krotz Springs; and Christopher C. Grimmett and wife, Melissa Missy of Port Barre; five daughters: Mary Alice G. Aucoin and husband, Rudy of Houma; June G. Nezat and husband, Ralph of Port Barre; Susie A. Edwards and husband, Michael Mike of Krotz Springs; Kathy Moreau of Leonville; and Charlotte R. Tate and husband, Ted of Port Barre; one brother, John Shelby Ryder of Port Barre; two sisters: Ruby Moreau of Leonville; and Patsy Morgan of Port Barre; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Grimmett; an infant daughter, Delores Grimmett; parents: Addie and Mary Pastorick Ryder; and one brother, Ivan Buck Ryder; one sister, Leether Robin; and one son-in-law, Lanny Moreau.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Thursday, July 10, 2008, from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Friday, visitation will continue from 6:30 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Church, MacDonell Children's Home, 8326 Main Street, Houma, LA, 70363.
