Velma Jennings
Port Barre A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Velma Jennings. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rev. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Velma was a resident of Port Barre. She passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 77. Velma was a graduate of Port Barre High School after graduation she was employed by Daily World as a typist and also worked as a bookkeeper for Jennings Stockyards in Opelousas and Baton Rouge. Velma loved listening to her French Music and the radio was always tuned into her favorite station KBON. Velma was a loving wife and loved her children and their families with all her heart she prayed for them daily and they are who she lived for. Although her days are over and as we now go on without her, she has instilled in us strength that we will forever carry within us. Her inspiration and memories will always live within us. She has fulfilled her duty as a wonderful wife, mom, and grandmother and knowing her strong belief in her Catholic Faith we know she is safely home and united with her parents. Thank you Mom we love you and may you rest in peace.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. Ralph Jennings, Sr. of Port Barre, her son, Ralph Jennings, Jr. and his wife, Katrina of Port Barre, his daughter, Debra Baham and her husband, Brad of Port Barre, six grandchildren, Sheena Biba, Kurt Jennings, Brittany Baham, Kaitlyn Baham, Kristy Nolan, and Brad Nolan, and six great grandchildren, Gabrielle Biba, Madison Jennings, Gavin Jennings, Davonte Gloston, Ethan Nolan and Arianna Nolan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Loretta Duplechain Aymond.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Jennings, Jr., Brad Baham, Kent Terracina, Ronnie Emonet, Kurt Jennings and Charles Soileau.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Stacy Mayeaux, the nurses and caregivers of Mrs. Velma.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre on Sunday, June 2, 2013, from 2 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
