Valerie Fitzmorris

Opelousas– A Funeral Service will be held for Valerie Latiolais Fitzmorris on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 12:00 noon in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Fr. Matthew Higginbotham will officiate the service. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

Valerie, a native of Washington and resident of Covington, entered into eternal rest at the age of 70, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at St. Tammany Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Valerie was a natural born caregiver; it was through this gift she chose to pursue a career in nursing. She served her community for 30 plus years as a registered nurse. Over the years she worked with St. Tammany Home Health, as well as R&R Home Healthcare. When Valerie wasn’t working, she enjoyed “dirt therapy”, which consisted of gardening and working in her yard. She also enjoyed sitting down with a good book or zyedco dancing with friends and family. Valerie was a devoted catholic and attended St. Jane De Chantal Church during her residency in Covington. Valerie cherished spending time with her family, she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister.

Valerie is survived by her children, Ashleigh Richard Mayfield and husband, Jared, Ryan Richard, Matthew Richard and wife, Kelly; the father of her children, Remi Richard; her mother, Jeannie Soileau and husband, Kirt; her brother, Carl Latiolais and wife, Debbie; her 3 grandchildren, Kale Killingsworth and wife, Caitlin, Isabelle Mayfield, and Janelle Richard. Valerie was also expecting the arrival of her first great-grandchild.

Valerie is preceded in death by her father, Lester Latiolais; her maternal grandparents, Carlton and Elda Lalonde; and paternal grandparents, Norbert and Helena Latiolais.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
