Theresa F. Lavergne
Grand Coteau Funeral mass for Theresa F. Lavergne, age 73, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010, in St. Charles Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Fr. James Lambert will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Theresa was a resident of Sunset. She died on Monday, May 24, 2010. She worked as an inspector at Garan Sewing Factory in Church Point for several years, and managed a small grocery store in Shuteston for a while.
She received her High School Diploma in 1997, at age 60, having returned to night school to achieve something she desired, and to reinforce the importance of education upon her grandchildren. Her biggest love was always small children and babies. She babysat all of her grandchildren until they reached school age, and was frequently the family chauffeur for doctors appointments, after school events and dance recitals.
Survivors include her husband Eric Lavergne of Sunset, her children Connie Ortego and husband Ronald of Opelousas, Michael Lavergne and wife Connie of Sunset, Pamela Marks and husband Dale of Opelousas, Karen Meche and husband Joel of Leonville, and Steven Lavergne and wife Roxanne of Sunset, grandchildren: Spencer Marks and wife Carla of Opelousas, Tressa Miller and husband Brian of Opelousas, Felicia Guy and husband Andy of Carencro, Jacqueline Brown and husband Stuart of Sunset, Tabitha Vincent and husband Dwayne of Erath, Melissa Ortego of Opelousas, Jake Lavergne of Opelousas, Carmen Marks of Sunset, Kelly Lavergne of Sunset, Summer Lavergne of Sunset, Trent Lavergne of Sunset, Jordan Meche of Leonville, and Mary Lavergne of Sunset, great grandchildren: Abby Marks, Landon Miller, Cole Vincent, Corbin Marks, Isabella Guy, and Hallie Miller, brothers Jimmy Fruge and wife Catherine of Lafayette, and Paul Fruge and wife Ann of Sunset, and sister Shirley Johnson of Prairie Ronde.
Preceded in death by her parents: Felix Fruge and Constance Castille Fruge, her sisters: Mary Jane Leleux, Georgia Salter, and Marjorie Caswell.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. On Thursday, visitation will continue in the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening in the funeral home.
