Opelousas – It is with badly broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful, Mother Theresa Fitzgerald. Theresa received God’s Glory and entered His Kingdom of eternal life on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at her daughter home with her family by her side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Theresa Fitzgerald on Monday, January 24, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Fr. Greg Simien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Theresa’s true passion in life was spending time with her family and her love for holiday traditions. She will be forever missed until we are joined again in paradise.

A longtime resident of Opelousas and currently resending in Lafayette, Theresa left to cherish her memory and carry on her family traditions are her children, Eddie Fitzgerald and his wife, Shelly of Patterson, Ronald Fitzgerald and his companion, Layla Smith of Iowa, Diane Fontenot and her husband, David of Lafayette, and Phyllis Yates and her husband, Kirwin of Lafayette, sister-in-law, Mrs. Ryan Marks (Tut) of Port Barre, grandchildren, Scott Fontenot wife, Heather, Kimberly F. Harman husband Greg, Abby Paradee husband, Glenn, Ryan Fitzgerald wife, Danielle, Meredith Bonneval  Husband Pat, Brandi Newell husband, Glenn and Charles Fitzgerald wife, Stephanie, great grandchildren, Hayden, Sydney, Katie, Logan, Olivia, Cameron, Landon, Taylor, Liam, Tilda. PaetynGrace, and Luca.

Theresa is preceded by husband of 64 years, Lennett Fitzgerald, her parents, Rene and Eloise Olivier Marks, two sisters, four brothers.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. by Deacon Dwayne Joubert. On Monday January 24, 2022, the funeral home will reopen at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be, Charles Fitzgerald, Greg Harman, Mike Fitzgerald, Glenn Paradee, Cameron Fitzgerald, and Landon Fitzgerald.

Donations can be made in memory of Theresa Fitzgerald to the Alzheimer Association.
