Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Nichols Naquin, age 83, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, in the First United Pentecostal Church in Melville. Interment will follow in the First United Pentecostal Cemetery in Melville.
Rev. Ray Majors and Rev. Sam Ham will officiate the services.
Thelma was a native and a longtime resident of Melville. She died on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at St. Landry Extended Care in Opelousas.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. In her spare time, she would spend time outdoors fishing at the lake with Robert. She was born on the 4th of July and made it a family tradition to celebrate her birthday together cooking and visiting with her family. She would volunteer at church teaching Bible School for many years.
Survivors include three sons: Lawrence Naquin and wife, Rose Mary of Melville Richard G. Naquin and Robert Naquin, Jr. and wife, Wanda of Dupont two daughters: Myrtis Ann Thibodeaux and husband, Farriel of Krotz Springs and Betty Beniot and husband, Walter of Krotz Springs two brothers: George Nichols and wife, Rusty of Melville and Marvin Nichols and wife, Helen of Chieffland, FL one sister, Earline Garsde of Melville 16 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren, and 3 greatgreatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Floyd Naquin parents, Arther C. Nichols and Ida Kimble Nichols three brothers: Clay Nichols, David Nichols, and Hillary Nichols and one sister, Ida Grant.
Visiting hours will be observed in the First United Pentecostal Church Hall in Melville on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. On Wednesday, visitation will continue in the church hall from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
