Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for, Thelma Leger Macip, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas. Celebrant for the Mass will be Mrs. Thelma's brother, Reverend Austin Leger and Concelebrant will be Monsignor Keith DeRouen. Rite of Committal will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Macip, age 90, a resident of Opelousas, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Macip's life was built on a strong foundation of her faith and love for the Lord, she spent majority of her time praying for others. She was a dedicated parishioner of Queen of Angels and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was known to many for her excellent cooking skills and sewing outfits for her grandchildren. Mrs. Macip will be remembered for her kindness and desire to help others. She loved being with her family and many friends and is going to be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Survivors include her one son, Marvin Macip and his wife, Pam of Opelousas; brother, Reverend Austin Leger of Opelousas; sisters, Velma Doucet of Eunice and Orphise Young of Eunice; two grandchildren, Stacey Macip M.D. and husband, John Caraway of Ruston, Rachel Junot and husband, Cody of Lafayette; three step-grandchildren, Laura Martien of Jackson Hole, WY, James Martien and wife, Nicole of Erath, and Seth Martien and wife, Michel of Lafayette; 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dudley Macip; parents, Zannie Leger and Eve Thibodeaux Leger; son, Glenn Macip; brothers, Leonce Leger and Joseph Nolton Leger; infant sister, Leonie Jane Leger; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Macip.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. A Rosary Service will be prayed by Reverend Austin Leger at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Cody Junot, John Caraway, Dennis Leger, Todd Miller, Leroy "T-Boy" Carriere, Derek Faust.
