Thelma Lavergne

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014, at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas for Mrs. Thelma Ortego Lavergne. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen will celebrate the Mass.
Thelma was a native of Ville Platte, longtime resident of Opelousas, and was currently residing in Lafayette for the past ten years. She passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Courtyard Manor Retirement Home in Lafayette. She was an accountant for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Danny Lavergne and wife, Toni of Lafayette and Kenneth Dale Lavergne and wife, Cheryl of Prairieville one brother, Joseph Bobby Ortego of Los Angeles, CA five grandchildren, Lisa Lavergne Knezha, Michael Daniel Lavergne and wife, Michelle Scott David Lavergne and wife, Melanie Christina Lavergne McDonough and husband, Mike Kendi Lavergne DiLorenzo and husband, Jacob four greatgrandchildren, Jessica Knezha, Jon Michael Lavergne, Nathan Lavergne, and Thomas Lavergne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reo Joseph Lavergne her parents, Alcuse Ortego and Edna Vidrine Ortego one brother, Louis Ortego and four sisters, Aline Ortego, Lydia Lemoine, Ethylene Young, and Atile Robin.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and greatgrandsons.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning in the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring staff of Courtyard Retirement for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana in memory of Mrs. Thelma.
