In the stillness of December 20, 2024, Susie Grimmett Edwards departed this world, cradled in the love of her family at The Carpenter House in Lafayette, LA. Born on January 8, 1947, in the quaint town of Opelousas, she blossomed into a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to nurturing—the very essence of her spirit woven into her career as a nurse, a calling she embraced wholeheartedly throughout her life.
Graduating from Port Barre High School, Susie's early days were marked by vibrant energy and a passion for the outdoors. In her youth, she delighted in hunting, reveling in the thrill of pursuit and the tranquil embrace of nature. As the years gracefully passed, her interests evolved, finding solace in gardening, where she tended to her plants with the same care and devotion she offered her loved ones. A devoted fan of sports, Susie's heart raced with excitement for LSU basketball, her laughter filling the room as she cheered for her team. When she wasn’t watching the game, she found joy in losing herself in the pages of a good book.
Yet, it was her grandchildren who encapsulated the very essence of her pride and joy. They were her treasure—a reflection of her unwavering love and boundless commitment.
As a nurse, Susie touched countless lives, offering compassion and care that left indelible marks on both her patients and their families. Her legacy lies not just in her profession but in the love and hope she spread with her gentle touch.
Susie is survived by her sons, Charles “Eddie” Guillory (Tammy) and Thomas Edwards; grandchildren, Megan Stelly (Shane), Chaz Guillory, Koy Guillory; great-grandchildren, Caleb Stelly and Noah Guillory; brothers, Bradley Grimmett (Blanche) and Chris Grimmett (Melissa); sisters, Mary Alice Aucoin, June Nezat (Ralph), Kathy Moreau and Charlotte Tate (Ted); and a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Susie is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Howard Guillory, Jr.; 2nd husband, Michael Edwards; parents, Charlie and Veneita Grimmett; baby sister, Delores Grimmett; brothers-in-law, Rudy Aucoin and Lanny Moreau.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lafayette General Medical Center for all the love and care they provided over the last 20 days. They would also like to acknowledge her special childhood friend, Kathy Leger Sylvester, that took great care of her; and her one and only granddaughter, Megan, that spent many hours caring for her as well.
In remembering Susie, may we all find comfort in the warmth of her love and the legacy she has gracefully bestowed upon us.
