Port Barre-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mr. Stanwood Joseph Nezat, Sr. Rev. Fr. Daniel Picard will concelebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Barre.
Stanwood was a native and a longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 91. He loved to cook for his family and friends, also loved to hunt, fish, and do carpenter work. He and Vera were married for 62 years they have four children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren he loved being around the kids and spending time with them.
Survivors include his children, Stanwood "Rascal" Nezat, Jr. and wife, Bobbie, Steve Nezat and wife, Lyndia, Melissa Stanford and husband, James, and Michelle Pitre and husband, Keith all of Port Barre, six grandchildren, Hannah and Jacob Pitre, Josh and Adam Nezat, Steve Nezat and Heather Hogue, and 2 great grandchildren, Tyler and Maci Hogue.
He was preceded in death wife, Vera Basco Nezat, his parents, Freddie and Mathilda Hebert Nezat, Sr. brothers, Freddie and Curtis Nezat, sisters, Mary Lee Leger, Mattie Broussard and Sis Callier.
The visitation will begin on Friday April 27, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., a Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home. On Saturday, visitation will continue at 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
