Sr. June Sutherland, MSC
New Orleans- Mass of the Resurrection for Sr. June Sutherland, MSC; AKA: Sr. John the Evangelist, MSC age 87, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009, in Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel in New Orleans, La. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Holy Cross Mausoleum.
Sr. June was born in New Orleans, La. on June 1, 1922 and died peacefully surrounded by her Marianite Sisters at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home at 8:30 PMon August 28, 2009.
Sr. June entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross In 1938. She was Involved In education at all levels teaching in New Orleans, LA at St. Rita, St. Cecilia, Holy Angels, and in Gretna at Archbishop Blenk High School. She also taught in Morgan City and Plaquemine, LA and was the principal at Vanderbilt High School in Houma, LA. She served as bookkeeper at St. Cletus in Gretna, LA and at St. Martin Manor in New Orleans, LA. She was committed to the highest education of the students and actively supported them in their extracurricular activities having a special place in her heart for all the programs related to sports.
Her retirement years were spent in community service and ministry of prayer at Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent, St. Joseph Convent and Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center in New Orleans, LA. Most recently she resided at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA. where her prayerful and gentle presence was an inspiration to all.
Mourning her death yet cherishing her memories is her sister, Louise Laiche and her husband, Paul and nieces and nephews.
Sr. June was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Louise Hambacker Sutherland from Algiers, LA.; five sisters, Eugenia and Catherine Sutherland, Elvera Rostrup, Mildred Talbot and Verna Griener; one brother, Eugene Sutherland.
alignright Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home Chapel in Opelousas; and from 3:30 P.M. until time of Mass at Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel in New Orleans, La.
