Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial for Sr. Regina Nunez, MSC will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in the chapel of Prompt Succur Nursing Facility, followed by interment in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery in Opelousas. The Very Reverend Monsignor Louis Melancon will be the celebrant.

Sister Nunez who was a native of Grand Chenier, LA, died on September 11, 2008. She entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1937. She was an elementary school teacher. She taught at St. Cecilia, Sts. Peter and Paul, and St. Rita in New Orleans. She also taught at Immaculate Conception in Opelousas, St. Alphonsus in Ocean Springs, MS., Little Flower in Arnaudville and Sacred Heart in Ville Platte. She served as office staff at Sacred Heart in Ville Platte and Holy Angels in New Orleans and Prompt Succor Nursing Facility in Opelousas.

She is survived by one niece, Wanda Bertrand, and her husband, Will, of West Lake, LA and a grandniece and grandnephews.

Sr. Regina was preceded in death by her mother, Regina Durapau Nunez, her father, Eraste Nunez and two sisters, Maureen Nunez Daily and Lou Nunez.

A wake service will be observed in the chapel of Prompt Succor Nursing Facility on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers the Marianites of Holy Cross request that donations be made to the Marianites Retirement Fund at 1011 Gallier St., New Orleans, LA 70117.
