Opelousas Sr. Mary Bernardine Hill, MSC AKA: Anna May was born in Plaquemine, Louisiana on January 27, 1924.

Deceased at Opelousas, Louisiana on September 8, 2014 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Sr. Mary Bernardine was preceded in death by her father, Louis Hill, her mother, Lillian Roth Hill of Plaquemine and her sister and brotherinlaw, Jook and Bernice Hill Marix.

She is survived by Bernardine and David Legendre and daughters Lisa, Lauren, and Layne by Jookie and Charlene Marix and children Jamie and Allison and by Louis Marix and his children, Michelle, Julie, Jed and Johnathan.
Sr. Mary Bernardine entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross in August, 1941 and pronounced her perpetual vows on August 11, 1946.

She received her Masters Degree in Education from Notre Dame University in 1956. During her years in education, as teacher and principal, she served in schools in New Orleans, Morgan City, Ville Platte, and Franklin. From 19601964, she was a student at LSU and was awarded PhD degree in education She served as New Orleans Archdiocesan Educational Supervisor and as college professor at Our Lady of Holy Cross College.

Her dedication to the educational process was profoundly experienced and appreciated by the students of all ages who were fortunate enough to have her as teacher, guide, and mentor. She gave generously and untiringly of her time and energy to any who sought her advice and expertise with any aspects of education. Always interested in the life of her students and their families, her skills and devotion to learning touched the lives of countless people throughout the State of Louisiana and beyond its borders.

Her last years of ministry were spent at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home where she remained active in the daily life and pastoral services of the nursing home.

To celebrate her life, a wake service will be held on Friday, September 12th in Opelousas, LA from 8:00 AM 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home Chapel followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 AM with burial in St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas.

In lieu of flowers, the Marianites of Holy Cross request that memorial donations be made to the Marianites of Holy Cross: Congregational Center, 1011 Gallier St., New Orleans, LA 701176111.
