Sr. Mary Marcella LeBlanc, MSC

Opelousas Funeral services for Sister Mary Marcella LeBlanc, MSC will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with burial following at St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas.
For the past five years, she was a resident of Opelousas. She died on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home, at the age of 94.
She is survived by Maude Manuel of Elton, LA Eva Gidlow of Lake Charles, LA Deany LeBlanc Meinke of Houston, TX Betty Manuel Roten of Irving, TX Ray LeBlanc of Sulphur, LA Joshua Gidlow of Lake Charles, LA and others relatives.
Sr. Marcella was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Nunez LeBlanc, her father, Dupre LeBlanc, one brother, Otis LeBlanc and one sister, Elina LeBlanc Manuel.
Sister entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross on October 25, 1938. She made her first profession of vows on August 11, 1940 and pronounced her final vows on August 11, 1943.
Sr. Marcella taught elementary school at St. Cecilia in New Orleans, LA and she served as nurse in the Marianite infirmaries at Holy Angels Convent and Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in New Orleans, LA and as a seamstress and dietician for the community. She was the Activity Director at St. Martin Manor in New Orleans, LA and, in her later years, she was involved in community service at Holy Cross Convent and St. Joseph Convent in New Orleans. She had many creative talents and used them to dress dolls in the original habit of the Marianites of Holy Cross and to make works of art using sea shells on note cards and pieces of wood. In 2005, she became a resident of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home where she is fondly remembered for her enduring kindness, warm smile and genuine gratitude to each person who cared for her.
A wake service will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.
In lieu of flowers, the Marianites of Holy Cross request that donations be made to the Marianite Retirement Fund at 1011 Gallier St., New Orleans, LA 70117.
