Opelousas- Funeral services for Sr. Mary William Hewson, M.S.C., age 90, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, La.

Fr. Austin Leger will celebrate the Mass of The Resurrection. Interment will follow in the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery, Opelousas, La.

Sr. Mary William was born in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1943. She passed from this life into eternal life on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, La. Sr. Mary William was an elementary school teacher and taught at Sts. Peter Paul, Incarnate Word and Resurrection in New Orleans, La. She also taught at Sacred Heart in Ville Platte, La. and Immaculate Conception in Lake Charles, La. Sr. Mary William spent her later years engaged in volunteer ministry in the library at Sacred Heart in Hattiesburg, MS., at St. Edmund School in Eunice, La. and as receptionist to the Administration of the Marianites at Our Lady of Holy Cross in New Orleans, La. For the last several years, she was a residence of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home where she continued her ministry of prayer. During her life, many people were touched by her gentle and faith-filled spirit.

She is preceded in death by her parents: James and Lydia Louise Friar Hewson and a brother, Rev. William Hewson.
