Opelousas A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the chapel at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA, for Sr. Genevieve Sensat, MSC AKA Sr. Mary Alice. Burial will be in St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas, LA.
Sr. Genevieve Sensat, MSC AKA Sr. Mary Alice was born in Lake Arthur, Louisiana on January 15, 1933 and grew up in Iota.
Deceased at Opelousas, Louisiana on March 18, 2013 at 5:30 AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank P. Sensat, her mother, Alice Guidry Sensat, and four brothers: James, Elmer, Grant, and Anthony Sensat.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Sensat Maynor and her husband, Willie, of Baton Rouge and two sistersinlaw: Helen Sensat and Lorine B. Sensat and by nieces and nephews and their families. Her nieces and nephews include Barbara Hurt, Ronnie Sensat, Bernadette Taplin, Sarah K. Womack, Robert F. Maynor, Priscilla Courtney, Patricia Sensat, Russell Sensat, Paula Sensat, Tony Sensat, Cindy Murphy, and Eric Sensat.
Sr. Genevieve entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1952. She pronounced her perpetual vows on August 16, 1956.
Earning a Baccalaureate Degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 1956, she was involved in education in teaching in various Catholic schools in Louisiana including in Franklin, Ville Platte, Lake Charles, Morgan City, New Orleans. After completing advanced studies in French, she served as translator and secretary for the Marianite Congregational Administration in Le Mans, France and Potomac, Maryland. She also served as formation director for the Marianites. From 19962004, Sr. Genevieve ministered in Haiti at College Regina Assumpta serving at the College of the Holy Cross Sisters in Cap Haitien.
Her last years of ministry were spent at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home. Through her varied life experiences, she brought a gentle, caring and prayerful presence. Like the beautiful needle work which she created, her love and appreciation for others were colorfully woven and distinctly evident in the fabric of the lives she touched.
To celebrate her life, a wake service will be held on Thursday, March 21st, 8:00 AM 10:00 AM in the chapel at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home followed by the Mass of the Resurrection.
In lieu of flowers, the Marianites of Holy Cross request that memorial donations be made to the Marianites of Holy Cross at 1011 Gallier St., New Orleans, LA 70117.
