Opelousas Funeral services for Sr. Evelyn Eason, MSC also known as Sr. Simeon died at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home on February 15, 2011 at 6:00A.M.
Preceded in death by her mother, Julia Ferretti Eason her father, Robert Eason two brothers, Claude and Paul Eason, and one sister, Eleanor Batistella.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, many cousins and a host of friends who have remained faithful to her through the years.
Sr.Evelyn was born August 12, 1920 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She entered the Marianites of Holy Cross September 2, 1939 and pronounced first vows August 12, 1941 and perpetual vows on August 12, 1944. As a devoted educator, she taught elementary and secondary schools in Louisiana including Plaquemine, Houma, Ville Platte, New Orleans, Lake Charles, and Eunice. For 12 years, she served as librarian and faculty member at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans. Having a special place in her heart for boys, the last ten years of her active ministry were spent teaching at Hope Haven and Madonna Manor School in Marrero, Louisiana.
Although short in stature, she had a feisty personality which gave her indomitable energy to get things done Believing in the importance and power of teaching, she passionately encouraged and diligently worked with student at all levels to assist them to achieve their educational goals. Even at the end of her life, she was still receiving cards and notes from former student.
Always faithful to daily mass, she was one of the first in the chapel each morning at Prompt Succor Nursing Home where she spent her last years and where she shared her love of Notre Dame University and the Fighting Irish With her Marianite Sisters at her bedside praying the Hail Mary, she peacefully entered into eternal life.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Prompt Succor Nursing Home on Thursday, February 17 10:30 a.m. with burial following at Our Lady of Holy Cross Mausoleum, in New Orleans on Friday, February 18, 10:30 A.M.
