She was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana on March 21, 1936. She died at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, Louisiana on January 4, 2015 at 10:30 PM.

Sr. Judith was preceded in death by her father, Moise Morelle Coreil, her mother, Judith Billeaud Coreil and her brother Eugene Coreil. She is survived by her brother Gordon and his wife, Denise Coreil and her sister-in-law, Betsy Coreil. She is also survived by nephew Gordon Coreil and children: Julia, Cory, and Ryan; by niece Caroline Coreil Roy and Bryan Roy and children: Michael and Victoria; by nephew Charles "Chuck" and Teresa Coreil and children: Aaron, Luke and Kate; by nephew Kemp and Ginger Coreil and children: Thomas, Camille, Catherine; by niece, Kara Coreil Ward and Wallace Ward.

Sr. Judith entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross on September 8, 1953 and pronounced her perpetual vows on August 14, 1958. She was educated at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her first years of ministry were spent in primary education as teacher and principal and she was the founding principal of Christ the King School in Terrytown, LA. She served as Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and then as Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. From 1982-1989, she was the Director of Curriculum Development for the National Catholic Education Association in Washington, DC. In this role she influenced Catholic education throughout the United States and beyond through her workshops on Visions and Values in Catholic Education. In 1989, she was elected as Congregational Assistant for the Marianites of Holy Cross and served in leadership for 12 years. During these 12 years, she had a profound influence on the International Session in Holy Cross Spirituality held each summer in Le Mans, France, the foundation of the Congregation of the Priests, Brothers, and Sisters of Holy Cross. As director of these sessions, her love for and devotion to the history and charism of the Congregation of Holy Cross permeated her very being. Following her time in community leadership, she served for over 5 years as Director of Public Relations at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home and was then asked to be the Director of the Office for Religious for the Diocese of Lafayette. In this role, she was ever attentive kind and attentive to the spiritual needs and development of her fellow religious in the Diocese as well as to her co-ministers in the other diocesan offices. Failing health necessitated that she resign from this position in June 2013 and move to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home.
Throughout her life, Sr. Judith's heart overflowed with an abundance of love - her love for her family, the religious family of Holy Cross, the spiritual family which grew and developed around her through her many and varied interests in education and religious life. If you were in her presence for more than a few minutes, you were no longer a stranger because your life had now become intertwined with her life. While separated geographically, she remained connected to people in each area where she had served and had brought her very best and most generous self. Without doubt, those of us who were extremely blessed to have been connected with her in life, remain forever tied to the strings of her eternal heart.

To celebrate her life, a wake will be held on Thursday, January 8th from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home Chapel with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. On January 9th, the wake will continue from 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM at St. Landry Church in Opelousas. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 AM with burial in St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Pall bearers will be: Gordon Coreil, Cory Coreil, Ryan Coreil, Thomas Coreil, Chuck Coreil Kemp Coreil, Michael Roy, and Bryan Roy.

In lieu of flowers, the Marianites of Holy Cross request that memorial donations be made to: Marianites of Holy Cross, Congregational Center, 1011 Gallier St., New Orleans, LA 70117-6111.
