Sr. Lucy Caillouet

Opelousas Funeral services for Sr. Lucy Marie Caillouet, 85, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2008 with a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Landry Catholic Church. Msgr. Winus Roeten will celebrate the Mass. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Holy Cross Mausoleum in New Orleans, LA.

Sr. Lucy was born in Houma, LA, and was a resident of Opelousas. She died on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. in the Prompt Succor Nursing Facility in Opelousas. Sister has been known to many as Sr. Lucy, Sr. Lucien, or Lucille. She had been in residence at Prompt Succor Nursing Facility in Opelousas, LA, where she continued her ministry of prayer.

Sister entered the Congregation of the Marianites of Holy Cross In 1942. She was involved in education as a teacher, principal and librarian. She taught at St. Cecilia, Sts. Peter and Paul, St. Rita, St. Agnes and St. Christopher in New Orleans. She also taught at St. Basil in Plaquemine, St. Francis in Houma, Holy Cross in Morgan City, Immaculate Conception in Opelousas, Sacred Heart in Ville Platte, and Little Flower in Arnaudville. She served as Principal at Holy Cross in Morgan City and as Librarian at St. Francis in Houma and St. Rita in New Orleans.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Sr. Lucy was preceded in death by her mother, Adele Margaret Blanchard Caillouet; her father, Edgar J. Caillouet, Sr.; five brothers: Edgar, Jr.; Zeke, Reginald, Francis and James Caillouet; and one sister, Sr. Felicitas, OSB.

Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, March 24, 2008, from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA.

In lieu of flowers, the Marianites of Holy Cross request that donations be made to the Marianite Retirement Fund at 1011 Gallier Street, New Orleans, LA, 70117.
