Algiers Funeral services for Sister Damien Catherine Marie Nacol, 90, will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, August 8, 2006, in Our Lady of Holy Cross College in Algiers, LA with a Mass of Christian Burial and interment will follow in Our Lady of Holy Cross College Mausoleum.
Sister Damien Catherine Marie Nacol, a native of Eunice and resident of Opelousas, died at 5:30PM Saturday August 5, 2006 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Convent in Opelousas.
Sister Damien entered the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1933, and has been a Marianite for 73 years. Throughout her many years as a Marianite of Holy Cross, Sister Damien taught at the following schools in the Archdiocese of New Orleans: St. Cecilia, Holy Name of Mary, St. Agnes and Our Lady of Divine Providence where she also served as Vice Principal. She also taught in the following schools in the Diocese of Lafayette: Sacred Heart in Ville Platte, Academy of the Immaculate Conception in Opelousas, LA., and St. Johns in Franklin. At St. Johns, she served as Principal from 1977-1980.
In the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Sister Damien served as Principal of Holy Family School in Port Allen, LA from 1966-1973. She also taught at St. Margarets School in the Diocese of Lake Charles.
In the past 15 years, Sister lived at Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in New Orleans and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Convent in Opelousas, LA and served the community in the ministry of prayer.
Survivors include: 20 nieces and nephews, 41 great nieces and nephew and numerous great, great nieces and nephews.
Sister Damien was preceded in death by her parents Faris and Annie Saad Nacol and her siblings Beulah Saloom, George, Edward, Henry, Fred, Thomas and William Nacol, Sister John Nacol, MSC and Frances Stoch.
