in Opelousas, LA for Sister Lurline Marie Broussard,84, who died Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 2:15AM at Our Lady of Propt Succor Nursing Faciliy in Opelousas. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Holy Cross Mausoleum, 4123 Woodland Dr. in Algiers, LA.
Sister Broussard entered the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1936, and has been a Marianite for 70 years. She earned a Bachelors Degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans. She received her nursing diploma from Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans. Sister earned a Masters Degree in Pastoral Ministry and a nursing degree from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio,TX. She Taught a St. Charles Academy, and St. Margarets, Lake Carles, LA, St. Francis in Houma, LA, St. Mary of the Angels, St. Cecilias, St. Ritas, Sts. Peter and Paul and Incarnate Word in New Orleans, LA. She practiced nursing at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, LA. She also served as nursing supervisor and counselor. She served in the infirmary at Our Lady of Holy Cross Provincial House in New Orleans, LA. She served as Pastoral Care Minister at Lafayette General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, LA. She did private duty nursing with Hospice. She served as Nursing Service Director of Franklin Nursing Home in Franklin, LA. She served on the faculty at St. John Elementary as teacher and Religious Education Coordinator in Franklin, La. She then returned to Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent as Health Care Coordinator in the infirmary. In 1993, Sister Lurline retired from active ministry. She was in residence at Our Lady of Wisdom in New Orleans, LA. She was transferred to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Facility in September of 2005.
Survivors include her siblings, Irene Coco of Lake Charles, Adele Harrington of Baton Rouge, Patrick Broussard of Lake Charles, Sr. Magdelen Broussard, MSC of New Iberia and Catherine Singer of Lake Charles; one aunt, Enez Monlezun of Crowley and a host of nieces and nephews.
