Shirley Soileau

WASHINGTON Funeral services for Mr. Shirley Joseph Soileau, age 97, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Hall in Washington. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Father Albert Nunez will celebrate the Mass.
Shirley, a native and lifelong resident of Washington, LA, passed away at Opelousas General Health System at 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011.
He was a retired livestock brand inspector with the Department of Agriculture, a farmer, and a rancher. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, LA Farm Bureau, and the LA Cattlemens Association. He loved hunting, cooking for family and friends, camping and traveling throughout the U. S. and abroad. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, and greatgreatgrandfather.
Survivors include his four daughters, Gloria Soileau of Washington Gail S. Phillips and husband, J. L., Shirley Ruth S. Marcus and husband, Malcolm all of Opelousas and Carolyn S. Macip Humphries and husband, Russell of Washington nine grandchildren: Wynn, Don, Nancy, Allison, DeeDee, Will, Lynette, Stephanie, and Marcus twenty greatgrandchildren, two greatgreatgrandchildren, one niece, Amy Soileau and one nephew, Horace Olivier.
He was preceded in death by his wife of seventythree years, Ruth D. Soileau his parents, Horace and Amy Smith Soileau stepmother, Lydia D. Soileau infant brother, Herbert sisters, Irene S. Soileau and Mildred S. Olivier grandchild, Carlos Macip soninlaw, Rayburn Macip and three greatgrandchildren.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Friday, September 16, 2011, from 4 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Saturday, visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
