Shirley Marie Beaugh Lavergne

Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Marie Beaugh Lavergne will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, in the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Fr. Greg Simien, Fr. Michael Russo and Fr. David Broussard will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley announces her passing on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Lafayette General Hospital, at the age of 79 due to complications from heart surgery.

Shirley was past President of the Mothers' Club at AIC and Rosary Altar Society, Lector and money counter at Our Lady of Mercy, and was a volunteer at Lafayette General Hospital. She and her husband owned Lavergne's Dairy in the Lewisburg area and she was active in farm life. Her business acumen was called upon when making farm decisions. Shirley retired from the St. Landry Parish School Board in the Payroll Department with over thirty years of service. She loved her family dearly and was proud of their accomplishments. She was a fair and honest person and a hard worker who enjoyed the outdoors. She wrote beautiful, heart-felt notes which will be treasured. She could always be counted on to give help when needed. She loved to laugh, read, hold babies, travel and work in her yard. She loved her Catholic faith.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 59 years, Carrol Lavergne of Opelousas, her loving children, Vaughn Lavergne and wife, Sharon of White Hall, Arkansas, Paula Pearson and husband, Dr. Charles Pearson, of Lafayette, Fred Lavergne and wife, Karen of Lafayette, and Lorna Lavergne of Lafayette, and sister, Norma Beaugh Castille of Church Point. Her seven grandchildren are Matthew, Andrew, Aaron, Megan, and Brandon Lavergne, Amy Deaville, Amanda Marcell, and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Amanda Nicholson Beaugh.


Pallbearers will be Andrew Lavergne, Aaron Lavergne, Jordan Pearson, John Sonnier, Ricky Soileau and Joe Lavergne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Al Castille, Mike Fontenot, Leroy Brooks and Matthew Lavergne.


Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, March 22, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Monday, the funeral home will reopen at 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home on Sunday and at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
