Grand Coteau A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, for Shirley Richard Lagneaux. Rite of Committal and interment followed in the St. Charles Cemetery. Father James Lambert will celebrate the Mass. Music will be played by Phyllis Simar and Ron Moreau.
Shirley was a native and longtime resident of Sunset. She passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012, at her home at the age of 100.
Shirley attended Sunset High School and graduated in 1928. She attended College of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau for two years and received a certificate in elementary education in 1930. She taught school in Eunice and Sunset. She received a BA degree from USL now ULL and received an ME from LSU. She became supervisor of Primary and Elementary grades in St. Landry parish . She was employed at USL now ULL in college classes in education, primary teacher, demonstrator, and teacher training.
In her younger years she loved dancing, painting and reading. She continued to paint until old age demanded she stop. Shirley often said, A day without painting is like a day without sunshine.
Survivors include her niece, Cynthia Primrose and her husband, Joseph of Austin, TX, and her nephew, Malcolm and his wife, Earline Couvillion of Sunset niece, Janice Russell of Nashville area, nephew, Glynn Richard of Thailand and California also many great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lagneaux, her parents, Leo and Susan Guidry Richard, her brother, Franklin Sr. Richard and her sister, Gloria Richard Smith, and one nephew, Franklin Richard, Jr.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Grand Coteau on Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. On Friday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening in the funeral home.
The family would like to send a special thanks to her care givers, Lori, Reggie, Dianna, Lacey, Aneshia for there care and devotion during Ms. Shirley long illness.
Pallbearers will be, Mike Primrose, Chuck Primrose, Tom Primrose, Mitch Couvillion, Dennis DeVaney, Mike Cormier.
