Shelton Bellard

Port Barre-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Shelton Paul Bellard at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Barre. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Father Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.
Shelton was a native of Church Point and longtime resident of Port Barre. He passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 79. He was a carpenter in the Refinery Construction industry for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren. He had a special joy in his life which was his dogs, Bentley and Kota. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his two sons, Rocky Bellard of Port Barre; and Marty Bellard of Opelousas; two daughters, Denise Cortez and husband, Paul Cortez, Jr. of Port Barre; and Rachelle Bellard of Port Barre; three brothers, Hervy Bellard of Zachary; Leonce Bellard, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Natchitoches; and Dale Bellard and wife, Victoria of Durham, NC; and five grandchildren, Ashley Bellard, Cameron Fontenot, Derrick Bellard, Paul Brent Cortez III, and Betti Cortez; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Bellard; his first wife, Betty Soileau Bellard; his second wife, Eula "Nookie" Guidroz Bellard; parents, Leonce Bellard, Sr. and Vina Venable Bellard; and three sisters, Mercy Higdon, Mary Ann Chaisson, and Loyce Devillier.

Pallbearers will be Marty Bellard, Rocky Bellard, Paul Cortez, Jr., Paul Brent Cortez III, Derrick Bellard, and Cameron Fontenot. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeremy Metrejean.

The visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015, with an all night wake until 10:40 a.m. on Monday in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
