OpelousasA memorial service will be held for Selwyn David Dave Richard at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 23, 2014, at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in
Opelousas. Services will be conducted by Monsignor Russel Harrington of St. John Berchman Catholic Church of Cankton, Louisiana.
Dave, a former resident of Opelousas, was currently residing in The
Southwest Louisiana War Veteran Home in Jennings. He died Friday, June 13, 2014, in The American Legion Hospital in Jennings.
Dave was born in St. Gabriel, Louisiana October 29, 1925 to John and Inez Triche Richard. Upon graduation from high school, Dave joined the U. S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Mountrail APA 213 in the Pacific during WWII. Dave accomplished the rank of RM1C in less than three years time. Upon discharge he entered L.S.U. and graduated with a degree of Engineering in 1950.
Dave went to work for Schlumberger from which he retired in Houma, Louisiana where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Edith Begue. From that union, they had three daughters by whom he is survived: Gwen and her husband Al Meche of Church Point, Kathy Martin and Brenda Veltin of Opelousas, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and three sisters.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife Edith and two granchildren: Piper Veltin and Beau Barnett.
Dave was a member of VFW Post 9903 and American Legion Post 225 in Church Point, Louisiana.
LSU has lost a dedicated fan. He lived and breathed purple and gold and his LSU Tigers.
Dave will be laid to rest in St. Landry Masoleum with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 9903 and American Legion Post 225s Honor Guard.
The family gathering will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas.
