Opelousas- It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Scott David Fontenot. Scott was welcomed into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on Monday, July 11th. Scott was a resident of Gonzales and grew up in Lafayette.
Scott was a beloved husband, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend whose abundant energy and presence knew no bounds. Scott never met a stranger. He had an infectious laugh and was the heart of every family gathering, which he cherished. Scott’s loyalty and devotion to family was unsurpassed.
Family members left to cherish his memories are his wife of 6 years, Heather Richard Fontenot of Gonzales; parents; David and Diane Fitzgerald Fontenot of Lafayette; sister, Kimberly Fontenot Harman (Gregory) of Lafayette; aunts; Phyllis Fitzgerald Yates (Kirwin) of Lafayette, Barbara Boenig (Vernon) of Eunice, Lou Sonnier of Bayou Vista and Dorothy Soileau of Eunice; uncles, Eddie Fitzgerlad (Shelly) of Patterson, Ronnie Fitzgerald (Layla) of Iowa and Lionel Fontenot (Linda) of Eunice; nieces and nephews, Hayden Harman and Sydney Harman, Cameron Marchand (Reagan), Maddison Bouget (Blake), Kriston Marchand and Robyn Marchand; sister-in-law, Melissa Marchand (Terry) of Nederland, TX; father-in-law, Robert Charles Richard (Sharon) of Mont Belvieu.
He is preceded in death by his loving maternal grandparents, whom he adored, Lennett and Theresa Fitzgerald; and paternal grandparents, Emma Lou and Evelyn Fontenot; mother-in-law, Linda Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Scott David Fontenot on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Fr. Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. by Deacon Ulysse Joubert. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
