Sara Perhamus
A memorial service will be held for Sara Lee Butler Perhamus on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Opelousas. Father Pete Smith will officiate.
Mrs. Perhamus died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at her residence in Opelousas.
Sara Perhamus was a joy and a blessing to those who knew her. As an elementary and preschool teacher for over 25 years, she greatly enjoyed illuminating the world of reading and exploration for her students. She loved growing and arranging flowers and plants of all kinds and was happiest puttering in her flower beds. She was a dedicated cook who loved to spring
new tastes on her family without warning, but always followed up her surprises with familiar and treasured baked sweets. She used her gardening and cooking talents well during summer breaks from school, laboring by her husbands side while they helped to manage various summer youth camps in Texas. In her later years, she looked forward to her weekly volunteer work at Opelousas General Hospital, as well as her many activities with friends at Cest La Vie and
Epiphany Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her children, Teri and Bill Cober of Opelousas and Mark and Diane Perhamus of Kerrville, Texas. She left three loving grandsons, Austin Perhamus, Devon Cober, and Chipper Cober. She is also survived by three sisters, Grace West, Donna Patterson, and Susan Thomas, and two brothers, James Butler and Samuel Butler, all of Texas.
Mrs. Perhamus was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Richard C. Perhamus, and her parents, Lovic P. and Ruth Rice Butler.
The family invites friends to visit with them on Friday, November 6, 2009, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the parish hall at the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Opelousas.
Those interested in making donations are encouraged to consider her churchs memorial fund Epiphany Episcopal Church, 1103 S. Union, Opelousas, LA 70570 or the charitable foundation at Opelousas General: OGHS Foundation, P. O. Box 1389, Opelousas, LA 70571.
