Salvador Sal Diesi Sr.

Opelousas Funeral services for Mr. Salvador Sal Diesi Sr., age 81, will be held in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011, with a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Jim Brady, followed by interment in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Mr. Sal was a native of the Bayou Current, La., area and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away at Lafayette General Hospital surrounded by loved ones at 6:20 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011.
Mr. Sal graduate from Melville High School, attended SLI, Enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and returned to Louisiana to graduate from SLI, and went on to graduate with a Law Degree from LSU Law School. Moved to Opelousas to begin his Law pratice in 1959. He was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the St. Landry Parish Bar Association. Served for many years as the Attorney for the State Licensing Board of Contractors as well as town Attorney for the towns of Krotz Springs, Melville, Port Barre, Grand Coteau and the City of Opelousas.
Sal was the President of the AIC School Board during the consolidation process with Holy Ghost to become Opelousas Catholic School.
He served parts of the St. Landry Parish as a member of the Louisiana Legislature in the House of Representatives from 1980 to 1988.
He became a Director on the American Bank and Trust Company Board in 1982 and was currently serving as President and Chairman of the Board.
He served as President of the Greater Krotz Springs Port Commission and was a founding member of the Opelousas Tennis and Swim Club.
He was a member of the Opelousas Elks Lodge 1048, The Kiwanis Club, The Sertoma Club, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 45, VFW, Bona Fidem Fraternity and on the Foundation Boards for Opelousas General Hospital and University Medical Center in Lafayette.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Mrs. Iris Roy Diesi of Opelousas, his sons Frank Diesi and his wife, Tammy of Butte LaRose, La., Tommy Diesi and his wife, Mary of Cecila, La., Sal Diesi Jr. and his wife, Christie of Lafayette, Joey Diesi and his wife, Melinda, of Opelousas, one daughter Lainy Diesi of Opelousas, and his step children Wayne Benson and his wife, Catherine of Opelousas, Layne Cormier and her husband, Dwayne of Eunice, Bridget Benson of Opelousas, and Brent Benson and his wife, Robin of Crowley, La., thirtyfour grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Ledoux Diesi, his first wife, the mother of his children, Betty Musgrove Diesi, and one son David Diesi.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, October 9, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Monday, visitation will continue in the Funeral Home from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 a.m.

Elks Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home, followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m.
