Opelousas- Funeral services for Russell J. McBride, age 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Nathan McBride Family Cemetery in Lewisburg, LA.
Rev. Benny Reppond will conduct the funeral service and Military services will be held at the Cemetery.
Russell was born in Church Point, LA and was residing in Jennings, LA. He died on Monday, August 10, 2009 in the S.W. LA. War Veterans Retirement Home. Russell served his Country during WWII in the U. S. Army and then went to work for the St. Landry Parish School System as Supervisor of Transportation for 40 years, was a past member of the National Teachers Association, part member of the St. Landry Parish Retired Teacher Association, and was voted St. Landry Parish Educator of the year; receiving this award at the Indian Hills Country Club where he was a member and a very avid golfer. Russell was the epitome of integrity, character, father hood and known as a very loving spouse. Russell was no stranger to hard work and saw the value in such. He learned his lessons well and taught them to anyone willing to listen. His best days were spent in the country under the Century Oaks after a hard days work enjoying a beer and bar-b-queing for his family. The mark that Russell left on this World is indelible.
Mourning his death yet cherishing his memories are his wife, Bonnie D. McBride of Opelousas; sons, Dr. Jim McBride and wife Sandra of Houston, TX., Mike McBride of Lewisburg, Mark McBride and wife Ave of Carencro, Scotty Guillory and wife Jan of Opelousas, Curt Guillory and wife Paulette of Egan, La.; daughters, Linda McBride Kannady and husband Don of Wiggins, MS., Gina McBride Sledge and husband Dr. David of Baton Rouge; sisters, Audrey McBride Cormier and husband Weston of Lewisburg, Joyce McBride Nolan of Lewisburg; twenty one grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his son, Keith Guillory and parents Nathan Dooney and Lora Collins McBride.
