Rosalie Nicholson, age 89, of Opelousas, passed away peacefully March 19, 2015 at her home while under hospice care.
Rosalie's wishes were to be cremated. Her memorial service will be held Monday, April 6, 2015 at Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Visiting hours will be observed from 9:00 am until the time of the eulogy service at 11:00 am.
Rosalie was the second child of Uetha Mary Mornhinveg Bordelon and Emile Bordelon. She had one older brother, Larry Bordelon. She spent her entire life in Opelousas except for her college years in Lafayette attending SLI (ULL). After getting her degree in Home Economics she met and married Jimmy Nicholson. Together they raised 5 children. The couple later divorced.
After her children were grown, Rosalie spent nine years as a substitute teacher and another nine years as a teacher at Cherry Street Academy. She will be remembered by family and friends as always welcoming them into her home as one of her own.
Rosalie, "Momma," "Maw Maw," "Granny," will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cindy (Clark) Rider of Lafayette, Nancy Hufft and special friend Rick, of Belle Chasse, Sarah (Bill) Martin of Boone, Iowa, Jim (Ris) Nicholson of Sunset and Johnny (Susan) Nicholson of Kingwood, Texas. Her pride and joy were her 11 grandchildren: Will Rider, Michael Rider, Ray Hufft, Gantt Hufft, Emily Hufft Chatelain, Laura Rosalie Martin, Carly Nicholson Myers, Nick Nicholson, Sarah Ellen Nicholson, John Nicholson and Andrew Nicholson. Nine great grandchildren were very special to her as well. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends that all meant so much to Rosalie.
The family would like to give special thanks to "Rosalie's Angels", Eunice, Janice, Mary Lou, Dana and Shyne who gave her 24 hour non-stop tender loving care during her brief illness. A special thanks to those who went out of their way to visit Rosalie over the last several weeks, especially her cousin Claire Landry who was there almost every day.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Rosalie's name to the Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care.
