OPELOUSAS- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ronnie “Rosco” Fontenot on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, LA. Fr. Matthew Higginbotham will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.
Ronnie "Rosco" Fontenot, a native of Washington, Louisiana, departed this life on September 19, 2024, at Opelousas General Health System. Born on August 17, 1954 in Lafayette, LA, Rosco was a vibrant spirit whose laughter echoed through the hearts of all who knew him.
Rosco found joy and solace in hunting and fishing, spending countless hours immersed in the beauty of nature. He had an innate talent for building, dedicating his life to the art of construction, crafting hundreds homes and creating spaces filled with love and warmth. His skillful hands shaped more than just structures; they shaped memories that will be cherished by those he loved.
Family and friends alike will always remember the special times spent together at Willie's, a place where laughter mingled with stories, and bonds were strengthened over shared cold beverages and good company. These moments, rich with camaraderie and warmth, painted a picture of a life fully lived and deeply loved.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diana Roberie Fontenot of Opelousas; daughter, Ashley Fontenot and fiancé, Nick Mayon of Opelousas; brother, Malcolm Fontenot and wife, Judy of New Iberia; sisters, Constance Soileau and husband, John Oren of Washington and Linda Walker and husband, Jessie Wayne of Sulphur; grandchildren, Aiden and Alexa Mayon; brother-in-law, Neal James Roberie and wife, Betty.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, James Yves Fontenot and Lenora Catorie Fontenot; grandson, Jansen Fontenot; brother, James Fontenot; brothers-in-law, Jude Roberie and David Roberie.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas. The Rosary will be recited at 12:00 noon by Deacon Jerome Collins.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Soileau, Nick Mayon, Brett Deshotel, John Soileau, Jr., Oren Soileau, Malcolm Fontenot and Neal Roberie.
Rosco leaves behind a legacy woven with threads of kindness, laughter, and an unmistakable passion for life. As we hold onto the precious memories we shared with him, we celebrate a life well-lived and the profound impact he had on our hearts.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to aid with funeral expenses.
