Ronald O. Fusilier
Opelousas- Funeral services for Ronald O. Fusilier, age 80, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Father Austin Leger and Father Angelo Cremaldi will concelebrate the Mass.
Ronald was born in Ville Platte, LA, and was a resident of Opelousas for 52 years. He died on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Opelousas General Health System.
He was the youngest boy of 13 children. He was a 1949 graduate of SLI of Lafayette. He was a Supervisor for the Office of Family Services for 30 years. Before his retirement, he served as an Instructor at Sacred Heart Catholic School of Ville Platte. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and very active in the church parish. He was also active in civic affairs in the Community, and a member and past President of the Sertoma Club and very active in the Cancer Drives. He was a loving character and was admired by all.
Cherishing his memories are his wife, Virginia Jen Fontenot Fusilier of Opelousas; 2 sons: Ronald James Fusilier and wife, Rhonda, of New Orleans; and Matthew Oscar Fusilier and companion, Mike Shickel formerly of New Orleans and currently of Grand Coteau; 3 sisters: Joyce Fusilier Fontenot of Ville Platte; Elva Soileau and husband, J.Y. of Ville Platte; and Rowena LaFleur and husband, Cedric of Morgan City; 5 grandchildren: Dawn, Jamie and wife, Kandice; Leslie and husband, Karl; Troy and wife, Brandi; and Lacee; two step grandchildren: Dustin and Shane; and 5 great-grandchildren: Cameron, Kristen, Ethan, Karsyn, and Christopher.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Fusilier; father, Oscar Black Fusilier; mother, Atile Mim LaFleur Fusilier; grandson, Christopher Fusilier; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Walker Fusilier; 4 brothers: Gobert, Clarence, Lee, and Ike Fusilier; and 5 sisters: Rose LaFleur, Ella Mae Ortego, Esther Colgin, Nita Pitre, and Winnie Veillon.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Opelousas.
