Ronald "Bip" Boyd, a resident of Fredericksburg, Texas was born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana. He attended 12 years at AIC, participating in baseball, football and basketball activities. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, where he also played baseball for the Navy team, in 1963 then served 6 years in the U.S. Navy, including time as Lieutenant on the submarine, USS Greenfish in the Pacific during the Vietnam war. He then worked 27 years for IBM in Dallas and in Charlotte, NC. He was an avid runner, completing many marathons.
Ron's joy in retirement, in addition to a loving family, was 16 years spent raising and showing llamas. He was untiring in volunteering their services at libraries and festivals, and as therapy animals at nursing homes and correctional facilities.
Ron was preceded in death by his mother and father, Vera Mae and Gus Boyd and brother Tim Boyd, all of Opelousas.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Libby Lyman Boyd of Fredericksburg, formerly of Opelousas, daughter Lynn Fondon and husband Trey of Southlake, Texas, son Rich Boyd and wife Michele of Gainesville, Virginia; grandchildren Kyle Fondon and Helena and Celia Boyd; brothers and their wives Dennis and Charlene Boyd of Lafayette, Willy and Pat Boyd of Opelousas, Robert and Brenda Boyd of Edmund, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law Beth Boyd of Opelousas.
A graveside service will take place in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington LA. at 11:00a.m. on Saturday September 24, 2016
