Romayne Sandoz

Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Romayne Fontenot Sandoz, known to many as Plum, age 88, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the services. Music will be provided by the Opelousas Community Choir.
She was a native of DeQuincy and was a longtime resident of Opelousas. She died on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at her home.
She was a homemaker and loved to sew. She really treasured spending time with her family and friends. Singing was her passion in life and she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Opelousas and a member of the Church Choir. She was one of the founding members of the Opelousas Community Choir. As a pastime, she would do gardening especially her flowers and painting. She was also a member of the Garden Club for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne S. Dunbar and husband, Walt of Opelousas and Karen Christian and husband, Van of Opelousas one son, Lawrence Larry Sandoz III and wife, Sherry of Opelousas three sistersinlaw, Jane Sandoz of Opelousas Gloria S. Harmon of Austin, TX and Vickie Fontenot her grandchildren: Garrick T. Pass and wife, Shanna Christiane P. Irwin and husband, Kelly Robi Sandoz and wife, Micki Courtney Sandoz Copell and husband, Lance Stephen Sandoz, Loren C. Thibodeaux and husband, Adam and Christina C. Speyrer and husband, Blake and her greatgrandchildren: Gwynyth Pass, Kaleigh, Hunter, and Bethany Irwin Leighton and Avery Copell Emma, Kaleb, and Maddie Sandoz Ryleigh Thibodeaux, Katelin and Emma Romayne Speyrer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence B. Sandoz, Jr. her parents, Sydney A. Fontenot, Sr. and Ardys Tillery Fontenot brother, Sydney A. Fontenot, Jr. and brotherinlaw, William C. Sandoz.
Pallbearers will be Robi Sandoz, Stephen Sandoz, Kelly Irwin, Adam Thibodeaux, Blake Speyrer, and Garrick Pass. Honorary pallbearer will be Lance Copell.
The family would like to thank her caregivers: Effie Chambers, Betty Woods, Betty Esprit, Ida Oakley, and Nina Stelly for their wonderful care and also Dr. Richard Tate and the Nurses of LHC LA Hospice and Palliative Care.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas, on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. On Thursday, visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
