Rodney Joseph R. J. Lafleur

Opelousas A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for Mr. Rodney Joseph R. J. Lafleur. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park. Rev. Father Paul Bienvenu will celebrate the Mass.

Sadly, R.J. lost his battle with cancer at the age of 66 on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at his home in Opelousas. R.J. has been fighting cancer for the past year. Things took a turn for the worse over the last couple of months, but R.J. remained strong until the end. Anyone who knew R.J. knew that he was a kind, giving and loving person. While in R.J.s company, one could not help but smile and laugh. R.J. loved life. He enjoyed making furniture, fishing, hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren. We lost our father, brother, pawpaw and dear friend.

Survivors include one son, Jason Lafleur of Opelousas three daughters, Tammy Lafleur Richard and husband, Vincent Coy Richard of Lafayette Jamie Lafleur of Midland, TX and Christine Lafleur Dorsey of Opelousas four brothers, Gary Lafleur of Eunice Mike Lafleur of Opelousas Rickey Lafleur of Opelousas and Dale Lafleur of Port Barre one sister, Debbie Blacksher of New Orleans and eight grandchildren: Chris, Benjamin, Ashlyn, Cierra, Jacob, Caleb, Kellen, and Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Lafleur parents, Pat and Leta Blacksher and one sister, Linda Lafleur.

Pallbearers will be Rickey J. Lafleur, Sr., Coy Richard, Shane Lafleur, Christopher Richard, Benjamin Richard, and Rickey Lafleur, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlos Hebert, Jason Lafleur, and Julien Dorsey.

Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Sunday, August 11, 2013, from 3 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. midnight. On Monday, visitation will continue from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to help defray medical and funeral costs.
