Rodney Fontenot

Opelousas- A funeral service will be held for Rodney Fontenot at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016, in the First Baptist Church of Opelousas. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Myrtle Grove Cemetery in Opelousas. Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the Service.

Rodney was a longtime resident of Opelousas. He passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at his home, at the age of 77. He was public school teacher at Grolee and Lawtell elementary for many years. Rodney enjoyed going riding in the car sight seeing, watching LSU football and spending time with his family. He was a counselor for young men at the La Garconniere. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include wife, Lillian McCain Fontenot of Opelousas, sons, Rowddy Fontenot and his wife, Trisha, of Opelousas, Jason Fontenot and his wife, Melodie of Frisco, TX., and David Fontenot of Opelousas, sister, Enola Janies of Eunice, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sadie and Alia Young Fontenot.

The visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, from 1:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. and will reopen on Thursday in the First Baptist Church at 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
